HUMILITY

This rare word and what it means
is out of fashion nowadays -
 in these times of hubris and ego;
it is seen as feebleness, inertia,
sycophantic currying of favours
senses of unworth and helplessness,
inferiority, deferential bowing of knees.

Highlighting its opposite - pride.
False, poisonous and deadly;
the stupidest, most ancient of all vices:
arrogance, concupiscence.

Whilst it is the dignity
of the absence of false ego.
Reverence and appreciation;
the full flower of wonder.
Harkening. Stillness built on faith,
alongside courage and humour.

It is the intelligent state
for thinking, self-aware creatures,
able to far see, respect and intuit.
To deduct, balance, equate,
assessing place and status
with the social graces of modesty,
skills of listening, compassion
and realization of the relativity of power;
the awesomeness of creation.
