PLATITUDES & METAPHORS

 

Blah, blah, blah turned from pure noise into consonants -

with grammatical abbreviations

interspersed with tone, pitch, gesture and body-speke.

 

Thus we make a story,

painting images with words;

thus we externalise dramas

of collective memory,

tell tales for bedtime and entertainment:

 versions of ancient mind-wash and compliance - 

to pass the time or edify.

Our contemporary advertising psychology

understanding the value of repetition,

howsoever subliminal.

 

The Tower of Babel didn’t help;

merely providing wherewithal

for trade and accademia;

peace might’ve been a motive - but territory overruled.

 

At some point, a few evolved

art and humour:

a relatively weird way to get perspective - to wonder or laugh!

Give the brain a breather -

via a koan, a joke or drug.
